A Labour Motion to campaign against the VAT on Static Caravans was passed unanimously by Hull City Council yesterday 19.04.2012. The City Council Motion agreed to work cross party with The East Riding Council, the Regions MPs and the Caravan Manufacturers. The Hull Daily Mail predicted up to 3000 jobs could go in the local economy due to this tax hike. The VAT changes accompanied the additional tax on hot food and petrol, that was in the Tory-Lib-Dem Government Budget. Whilst four Humber Tory Mps to their credit joined with Labour MPs locally in opposing this VAT rise in a House of Commons amendment, the failure of Lib Dems to back the industry left the VAT increase in place.

The motion has called for a Regional lobby to seek to meet Ministers face to face to lobby them as to the devastating effects this could have on Hull and the Humber.
